More and more students are graduating with loads of debt from “private lenders” (ex. Sallie Mae, Wells Fargo, Xpress Loans) who make loan terms unclear, and repayment plans ambiguous. These loans can rarely be consolidated, have high interest rates, are non-dischargable in bankruptcy, and have very high payments. Congress is realizing that something must be done to alleiviate the burden on the students that fell victim to these lending practices by the banks. What remedies do you think should be allotted these students? How do we fix problems within private lending so students can pay their loans while still maintaining a decent quality of life?

I have just filed a loan for my university and they told me it was certified. What exactly does that mean? Have I gotten the money? Is it on the way? How long until the loan is approved? Any answers are helpful. Thank you!
I have asked the financial aid office and they are of no help!

I have several loans with loan companies n they are secure with household goods. Can they do this?

Once they initially discharge the loan, will they refund any money you paid, how does this affect credit rating? How is this to be handled if the applicant begins working again after qualifying for the loan discharge?

I already have a home loan with ICICI on a floating interest rate. I’am looking for another loan.Should I clear this loan first to avail another loan or should I continue paying the EMIs for the entire tenure(This is a huge amount I will be paying by the end).
“Clearing a home loan” is what I meant of getting rid of the loan by making a pre-payment.

I do own my own home but am still paying off my mortgage. My son needs more money for college and we’ve tapped out on student loans and my credit cards are all maxed. I was wondering what I could do and thought that a home equity loan with bad credit might be an option. I don’t know if it’s a good idea though.

My student loan has become a hassle to pay for. I have a car payment, rent, cell phone, and car insurance, and not forget gas or groceries to pay for every month. I find it more and more difficult to make even the minimal payment due for my loan. I understand that I am not the only one in this situation nowadays, but if anyone can give me any advice as to help my situation I would be appreciative. Thank you.

I just paid off my car loan. I was never late on a payment and I see on my credit report is listed under a possitive account category. Will this loan be considered for years to come in determing my credit score. Or once a loan is paid off is it like it doesn’t exsist?

I am in desparate need of a car loan. My car was stolen over the weekend and I need a car where I live. I have what most would consider Bad credit and need some advice on where to shop for a loan without paying an outrageous interest rate. The other problem is that I don’t want to apply for too many lenders because it lowers your credit score even more. Please help. Thanx!

I heard that comparing auto loans before shopping for a car is a prudent thing to do. But I’ve also heard that every time you apply for a loan your credit rating is negatively affected. What’s the truth?
